I use Mitsu method (with larger clearances), from memory .019" end gap for ring1 and .023" for ring 2. Is there something I'm missing Andrew?

No Koray........when I build an engine I like both compression rings to come in at the same gap, that way the cylinder seals well with minimal blow-by as the rings seat.......but where large amounts of boost are applied I have always increased the top ring gap (due to thermal expansion) to ensure "ring end batter" doesn't occur.

Sooooo cold today, the only part I achieved to restore was the power steering reservoir bottle....and it needed to be placed in front of the heater.

Purchased a rebuild kit from MTQ..........cost a fortune.........replaced the main bearing, thrust bearing, thrust washer and turbine circlip to develop a TC05 without shaft play, I didn't replace the turbine heat shield as it wasn't burnt and in good condition........just need to send it off to be balanced.

Assembled:

Nice and clean compressor wheel, no burnt oil residue:

There is alot of clean oil in the pics........the more oil the better. :)

It's too cold for painting parts at the moment to I will focus my time for mechanical, spent tonight on the turbo.......have totally assembled to ensure alignment and the turbine turns cleanly without scrapping on the exhaust housing.

All is good........just need to dismantle and send for balancing.

Here is the rear hatch trim.......Grant and myself visited another owner who is wrecking an AA.......the trim had a large crack in it and the clips were busted.......all good now. ;)

Finished:

Crack gone:

Was looking at the exhaust gasket today......it's mainly to fit an N/A 62......had to cut to fit. GGRRRR

Image

Needed to removed the side of the gasket as it totally covered the oil feed line.

Image

God I hate cutting new gaskets!!!!

Here's a good one......dummied up the oil return line only to find it's hard up against the catalytic converter........mitsi even put a cutout in the shield for it........now I know why the AC's all ran an oil cooler.

Should be fun to fit!!!!

Nothing worse than cutting into a brand new item. Are you going to refresh your compressor housing after you've balanced the turbo? Same colour as the actuator perhaps.

Can't wait to see this engine in the bay. Looking good.

Can you pick up TD05 rebuild kits from MTQ? I googled MTQ, got Sonic performance and mitsubishi turbos dont seem to be something they have anything to do with.

How much was the rebuild kit/rebalancing? I've got a TD05 that would have to be redone before I could use it

Here is the link for MTQ:

http://www.mtqes.com.au/products.php

There is a branch here in Adelaide at Regency park........service kit was $225......a full rebuild kit is over $400!

All kits are available......you will just need to ask. :D
