Well done.......but how did you remove the rubber sealing off the piston?

Did you cut it off?

I have rebuilt many of these and the rubber sealing ring (always tears) is a BITCH to put back on!

Easiest way I have found it to put the sealing ring back on the piston is to soak it in degreaser and allow to expand. Fit the seal and then let dry so the rubber returns to normal size.

Yeah i had a bit of trouble getting it off. It ended up splitting then just sort of fell apart. Was pretty old.

I have a new seal kit. Your degreaser idea sounds interesting. I have some grease that came with the caliper rebuild kit i bought, was thinking of covering it in that and seeing how i go.

What have you used in the past bitza when reinstalling, brake fluid or grease? It's a particular type of grease that has to be used...silicone or something.

Gave it a coat of paint. Going to paint my brake calipers the same colour when i get around to it.

I always re-assemble with clean brake fluid......don't use CRC or other similar lubricants as the rubber sealing rings will swell.

The grease is used in the rear of the cylinder.......mainly on the "throw" rod.

PS........you should have painted the unit after assembly.

Yeah i know. Was thinking of putting it in the oven to cure but the plastic in it will most likely melt. I'll just have to be very careful.

great write up , how much did the Kit set you back?

$9.80 for the kit and $20 for the second hand unit. Was quoted $245 plus shipping for a new cylinder from repco...depending if one was available or not.

Do you know if you can get a kit that includes a new piston and spring?

I got a genuine kit which is the internals , you get the piston/spring/rubbers etc complete with the clip , but its about $60ish I think , I also bought a new master for my evo as it had a weird one in it , but was $280 for the genuine one , and I opened it up to find a plastic internal which I didnt like , I will get another kit and change that one also

the evo x ( 10 ) , has a complete plastic master which explode if you dont put a update metal ring around it

Do you know what the part number is for the genuine kit? I'd be interested in one of those.
