Hey guys just want some comments or feedback on the autronic sm4.
Planning to upgrade from the stock ecu and i got a quote from springy motors for $3400 installed and tuned. I understand its most likely a great ecu but the price seems quite steep, is there any alternatives that do roughly the same thing for a smaller price? Want that air flow meter gone! :P
cheers :)

you could possibly go something second hand/a bit older, dont really need the number of mapping points of something high end on a single cam

v3 can still pull great power even v4 u can get cheap, autronic computers are great from what i have heard but they cost the earth,

a wolf wired in should cost about 300-500 and a dyno tune again another 500

and 500 for the ecu depending on where u get it.

if ur going to do that on std injection i would get a multipoint mani and dizzy spend like another 200-300 going multi and u can have 150 odd atw

so for around $2k 150 kwz :D your turbo and motor have been done and u have a pretty cool cooler, be a very nice car after that!!

racetec in dandy did the computer and tune for the car i worked on, ended up very nice and cost about 900 for wiring tune to 147 @ 16psi 6000rpm
extras i didn't have were igniter and stuff like that, but the shop sorts all that out cost like 1200 in the end with a boost controller and stuff

Autronic make very good ecu's. If you need a workshop to fit an ecu, it will be easier for them to fit a new one, particularly one that they are familiar with. There are lots of 2nd hand ecu's that could do the job that you want, and these will cost you much less to purchase. If you fit it yourself you would save a lot too.

not to mention warranty with a brand new ecu. Reliability costs money. I got a Vipec V44 installed into my car a while ago, I think that was 3.2k... but it's a good unit, and helped sort out other issues with the car.
