Going back to a manual approval process is a bit of an administrative headache (because admins need to manually review each registration) and is frustrating to users as they need to wait for their account to be activated. We may however, need to go back to this if things don't get better.

Spammers get through because they are constantly developing new methods to bypass existing anti-spam systems that are in place. It's a constant battle that will never really end as as long as there is a monetary benefit to spammers (links to promote their sites in order to generate revenue etc). Because of this spam will always be around in some degree.

I've been deleting and banning the IPs of spammers but this is only short term fix as they usually bypass IP blocks quite easily.

I'm sure adding new moderators will help alleviate the problem a bit. New moderators will be appointed by early next week.

Kham

I've just installed an anti-spam mod which should make automated bot registrations much harder.

Hopefully, this will keep the bots away for a while.

They aren't all necessarily bots. We occasionally get human spammers register as well.

Sokay, somebody else made that thread, not him, then deleted it... have since removed it all anyways.

People wanna cut just a little slack. Isnt a mod online 24/7, but spam is usually cleaned up within 24hrs ;)

Thanks :P
