Hey guys..

I'm fitting my 3" soon and it doesn't have a cat... and there is nowhere the shop can fit a cat that's within the minimum distance from the outlet.

what are people's experiences driving without a cat? Anyone been caught? I'm wondering if the EPA/cops check the minimum install distance, if not I can knock the insides out of one and fit it further down..

Astaroth.

I think it's too sacked and you can't fit one under?

loss - Umm, no... the cat will not physically fit. It will go in under the front seats but that's too far from the engine and carries the same fine as not having a cat.

I dont have a cat on my car and it has been fine, i have passed road worthies before. But i shouldnt have as my zorst is too loud so i couldnt work that out.

Try going to a someone you know to get the rwc that way they will be a bit more slack

go and buy a cat casing and cut it in half fit it to the zorst making it look like you have a cat fitted...

I have hard of people just having the casing on there cars as it increases the power of your car...

:D:D

Depends, if your car is an AB and has had the engine revised as leaded then it would have been fine, just say you use unleaded cos its cheaper

But if the rego office have the vr4 down as a unleaded engine, then you'll need to fit a cat, you will need to do what neehop said, and make sure you do it properly, 100% because regency inspection centre and places like that check cats very very carefully to see if its touched and possibly had the inside stripped or bypassed plus your exhuast emissions might give it away so check that also.

You could possibly look into a custom built cat convertor, engineered and then fitted but then you could have some high-tech imported very hi-flowing catalyst internals installed at the same time if it's not too expensive.........

If the car was built prior to 1986 then you can drive without a cat if it came from the factory without one, but yeah with the VR4 I have to retro-fit.

I am considering the casing idea, either that or just getting one and knocking the guts out of it. We'll see how I go :/

Astaroth.

Maybe it's too dumped so you can't fit one under?

Can you get long skinny ones? I dunno cos you don't have to have em here eh?

Just get a good hi-flowed 3" cat, it will not rob the car alot of power. I picked up a 3" Magan flow high flow cat for $150 brand new, just have to shop around.

I am sure that one of the car mags did a power test and found the power loss due to a good high flow cat was not very much. I am getting flanges welded on mine so i can take it off and fit a straight piece of pipe for the drags.

I've said three times now that THE CAT WILL NOT PHYSICALLY FIT UNDER THE CAR. I am not concerned about power loss.

Your car: White '85 AC GSR Vr4
3" Mandrel Exaust, Big Front Mount, NA Cam + Plenum, XF TBody, 17" Lenso Shu's, Rear Magna Disks, Rear Battery, Bosch 440 Pump, HKS GT25/30r Turbo, Kings 3" Lowered, Munro Lowered Shocks, Nolathane bushes, Nolathane front and rear engine mounts, 550cc injectors, Microtech MTX8, Genuine skirts and rear bar.
Yes it will fit... i know my corida is 3" down with a 3" and a vr4

you jsut have to shop around for different shape ones..

they make long skinny ones and short fat ones... mine is basically jamed on the turbo... its right up the front because of a really short cat i found.. and it'a high flow 3" and cost me about $180.

hope this helps... also there are other shape ones so mayeby there's a better place for it... as where i have mine makes room in the front there very very diffiuclt.. but it got me through all the screwed up qld regulations and sniffer testing when it got complianced.
