Hey Guys,

Well, finally got the conversion *almost* finished, but the clutch doesn't seem to be disengaging quite enough. When the engine isn't running, clutch out, you can sit there and slot through every gear, including reverse. As soon as you start it and put the clutch in, it takes a fair bit of force to get into all the forward gears and kinda clunks in. When I try for reverse you can hear the gears grinding (i'm guessing cos there's no synchros on reverse).

Can anyone suggest what the problem is? I've bled the clutch slave cylinder, and it's the same clutch that came out with the old engine, and was previously working fine. I didn't touch the thrust bearing when it came out either. Is there a way that you can adjust the pedal inside the cabin somehow? Or do I have to take the gearbox off again to find the problem?

Cheers,
Adrian

PS - the pressure plate fingers were fairly worn, but it was still working fine before I pulled it out.

You will be able to adjust the the master cylinder, disconnect it from the pedal, take 2 12mm bolts off on the master cyl, then pull it out and adjust it to push longer..

the clutch pedal can be adjusted under the dash.you can adj the amount
that it pushes the m/cyl by adj the rod under the dash, you can also adj the pedal height.it is quite a squeeze to get your hands in their with your head on the floor.
have you bled it completely it is quite hard to get all the air out.

are you using the evo flywheel with the cordia g/box?
did you check the flywheels for thickness difference? was the evo flywheel recessed ? the vr4 one i had was recessed and you could not have used a cordia clutch on it i don't think
good luck david

I'm using a cordia flywheel and clutch.

Turns out I hadn't bled it enough, bled another 300mls or so through, and it works sweet.
Thanks for the help guys.

Hi guys,

Same problem here with my AB Cordy.

Mechanic said the clutch was gone. said he bleed it heaps.
did reco master and slave cyl. same thing.
grind/clunky in forward gears, total grind in Rev.
NO 5th. - think the vacuum hoses wrong for 5th, though. fixed that. i hope.

all ok with engine off.
new 1.8L - old clutch/flywheel etc.
was ok before motor change. little bit of a grind etc.. but long time between bleeds.

will try this tommorow, let u know how it goes.
bugga new clutch @ $250 + fitting.

regards,
Tubby.
