Has anyone here tried it. Just wondering if it would be worth the expense. Seems particularly applicable for the cordia given it's cooling system could have been better.

I've seen the stuff in a old truck once, it's like oil. It is good stuff (so the owner recons) but costs a hell of a lot (cost him around $800), and can't be mixed with water at all, otherwise it's ruined (Could be a problem if you get a leak while driving somewhere). For something not driven often it is probably perfect as it won't go off/rust the engine but personally for a daily driver I wouldn't use it. If you keep on top of your coolant servicing you shouldn't have any problems.

Yeah your probably right. To get the prep and the waterless coolant will cost around $200. I'm just trying to find a solution to the temp. increase sitting in traffic on a 40 deg day. I honestly don't drive the cordia in summer that often because you cannot avoid traffic in sydney anymore, anywhere, at any time of day. There are too many f^ckin people. My rad is perfect, i use a 50/50 mix and change it every 18-24 months. I only start having issues when traffic is going nowhere, so i think adding a second thermo fan will be the go.

That's probably the best solution, just get some extra airflow through the radiator. I don't think any liquid could make up for a lack of airflow.

You are correct, an additional thermo fan will reject the thermal mass stored when stopped at the traffic lights.

If you are worried about corrosion, stick to distilled water/quality glycol mix for daily driving. Remembering that the water content is the active medium for heat transfer and that the glycol is an additive to enhance anti freeze/boil properties and prevent corrosion.

In addition, ensure your radiator cap functions correctly. It should increase the pressure in the cooling system to increase the boiling temperature of the water.

Yep it's heating up now so i'm going to have to pull my finger out. I've got a nice new davies craig 12 inch sitting here...just have to find the time to install it.

Another question: Do you think a 29 year old thermo fan when running would put more strain on a battery in terms of amps it's drawing than a new thermo fan?

I recently got a new battery and if i'm sitting in traffic for a long time and the thermo fan has kicked in 3 or 4 times, i'm getting a searching idle. When the fan turns off idle goes back to normal. It only happens after the fans have had to kick in 3 or 4 times. The whole thing gets worse at night when i have my lights on, bloody thing wants to stall on me. Bit of a head scratcher. The only thing i can think of is the thermo fan is very old and probably a bit greedy. Or i have an earthing problem somewhere. But i get no issue if the fan only has to work once or twice. I think i've asked this question here before come to think of it. It feels like the fan is robbing some spark.
