Post subject:  Help Please - vr4 powered cordias with power steering

Hi everyone,

After some help concerning power steering with cordias that have been converted to vr4 power.

I have a shell which i'm fixing up and it has power steering rack and some lines up to where a pump would sit. The car did have a vr4 motor but couldn't be certain what pump and brackets it was using.

My motor i'm using has no pump or bracket.

What pump and bracket are used?

Close up pic might help to determine what fittings mine has , might help work out which pump it had.

If its to hard to work out I will just have to convert back to manual rack like my original vr4 cordia was. It wasn't that bad, just thought I would try power steering if easy enough to work out.

Thanks, Brad

Hyundai sonata has same pump and bracket.

OK, if you are going to retain the cordia power steering line use the original pump. (Screw in type)

The VR4 has a bolt in type.

You will need to modify the VR4 power steering bracket by opening the 10mm hole to 12mm and welding a bolt on the front, you can get a bracket off of an N/A Galant or Sonata. (I have a few spare if you can't find one)

You can also replace the cordia pulley (as I believe it's leaves the steering too light) with the VR4 one, just a matter of disassembly and replacement.

Thanks for the replies guys , I will look into it and see if its worth worrying. I had my other vr4 cordia for 11 years on the road with no power steering, this was more just having it for the sake of having it because half the bits are there. I might struggle finding the rest of the bits i need anyway.

once again thanks for the help,

Brad
