Check the gearbox vacuum lines.

Hey there

I just fixed my Cordia as it had no 5th gear, only 2 4th
gears.

Originally mine would only play up every now and then.
It would suddenly drop into neutral and then back into
gears with a big grinding sound. Sometimes I noticed
that I was in 4th instead of 5th.

Then one day it went crazy and after that all I had was
2 4th gears.

I checked vacuum lines to solenoid - ok, checked solenoid
and it was ok, checked diaphragm on gearbox and that was
ok.

Finally I checked the rotary switch at the front of gearbox and found
it was faulty. Put another switch in and I had all 5 gears again.

Let us know if you need a hand with how to check stuff.

Matt

Don't forget to check that the pin and coller that join under the rubber boot near the diaphram on the box are connected, mine weren't and i had no 5th.....

I had the same problem, 2 fourths, but it was the complete wiring to the 5th gear solenoid after the connector from the switch on the gear box that was faulty, I went to the wreckers and got a new set of wires, but pulled the motor out before i could test it.

so check ur wiring and connectors aswell, though this isnt as common as the other causes.
