Believe me, Your best bet is to Sell the GSL and Buy a GSR. a GSL is just a fancy colt. GSR's are diferent cars. Go check out a GSR and ull see what I mean.

The conversion is actually possible. and it has been done, however its not really viable. the money And/or time you would put into the converion would EASY cover the cost of a GSR, or the time could be spent on the GSR improving it.

You will need to change at least:
Engine (duh) and turbo with all accessories and all sensors
Engine Mounts
ECU, wiring loom
Gearbox and Driveshafts
Exhaust
Lots of random wiring
Linkages and H-Plate
Convert Cable clutch on GSL to GSR's Hydraulic
the Entire Fuel system
- Fuel pump
- All lines
- Possibly tank
Brakes (legality reasons)
Suspention (legality reasons)
Instrument Cluster
More suff i have forgotten

To make it a 'true' GSR you need to change:

Interior (Seats, door trims, steering wheel etc)(WAYYYY nicer on GSR)
Ground Skirt Kit
Headlight washer system
Badges
Wheels
Foam Spoiler
a lot more stuff I have forgotton

As for the actual converion, its pretty much unbolt from GSR bolt onto GSL.

And if you think thats a lot, then you will have to get it regod, possibly engineered. and all I can say is Good Luck!

And also u still only have a 'standard power' GSR, whereas that time/money could be used Starting at the 'GSR level'

For more information please consult your local search button using query (without the "") "gsl gsr conversion" with the 'Search for all terms' option

You could also try popping a PM to the user 73MTU or Neehop. Both have a/had GSL GSR converted cordia

oh, and if u r planning the other way round (GSR to GSL) well, you r just crazy. :) but would be funny

I agree about the Colt thing, my first Cordia was a GSL, it looked remarkably like a Colt! The grille especially! Many aspects of the GSR make it a far better investment than a GSL!

GO THE SEXY GSR'S!!!

Speedy you have to much on your list i have done this conversion and was not that hard....

You will need to change at least:
Engine (duh) and turbo with all accessories and all sensors
Engine Mounts ~ No Same Mounts
ECU, wiring loom ~ Aftermarket computer easyer
Gearbox and Driveshafts
Exhaust ~ Just exhaust conection (change if you want bigger)
Lots of random wiring ~ none extra done with mine
Linkages and H-Plate ~ did not change
Convert Cable clutch on GSL to GSR's Hydraulic ~ this was easy
the Entire Fuel system ~ Yes all fuel lines and tank need to change
- Fuel pump
- All lines
- Possibly tank
Brakes (legality reasons) ~ good idea to change but AC GSL has same Brakes as AB GSR
Suspention (legality reasons) ~ Same setup as AB GSR (But sway bars are smaller)
Instrument Cluster ~ Not needed alls that is diffrent is no boost gague
More suff i have forgotten

To make it a 'true' GSR you need to change:

Interior (Seats, door trims, steering wheel etc)(WAYYYY nicer on GSR)
Ground Skirt Kit
Headlight washer system
Badges
Wheels
Foam Spoiler
a lot more stuff I have forgotton

There is a lot of stuff there that you could change but you know are not needed and if you are going for sleeper look as i was keep everything GSL other then the main points....

Took me 2 days for full conversion with 2 guys all parts ready and a forklift ;)...

Lance

O and the GSL and GSR boady are the same 100% the shell was used for both GSL & GSR as all the mount points for both models are in GSL and GSR have a close look at where the overflow tank for radator is on the GSR and then look at the GSL it is operset side but both cars have the 2 mounts.... I had to swap things from one side of the car to the other as parts need to be in a few diffrent spots to where the GSL had them...

my old car was a gsl with gsr engine, and gsr brakes, but more or less everything else was all gsl (suspension, interior etc.)

the radiator bottles are in different places (from memory this is because gsr's have headlight washer jets, so they moved things around), but this is the least of your worries.

the only advantages were that i had power steering and electric windows, but if you are keen on those things, not too hard to put them in a gsr...

major disadvantage --- poo brown interior :(
suspension was also really soft and crap

they kept the gsl instument cluster from memory. it was registered with the turbo motor in it, so i don't think it would be that much trouble to register in victoria. (don't know about other states)

With the price of GSRs these days (i picked up both my gsr's for under $500 -- well one gsr and one gsl/gsr), it's hard to see why it's worth it.

Unless you are having alot of trouble finding a good gsr, and can do all the work yourself (and have access to the parts you'll need cheap), it's probably not worthwhile.

also..

holes for a stock ecu is going to be the least of your worries....
