got the galant apart today... turns out the gearbox bolts had come loose and it had seperated a bit at the front and shaged the centre of the clutch.... so new clutch should fix it easy enuf...

ive given the input shaft a spin and wiggle etc and it feels fine... but what are the chanses of there being damage to the bearings on it?

I read your thread on T4G. I'm thinking it's still fine aswell but sometimes taking shortcuts can lead to bad things.
Maybe you should get it checked out.

i know what your saying.. thats why i'm sussing it out in as many places as i can.... i'm not overly confident with any of the mechanics around here... due mainly to mechanic stuffups i went through 5 gearboxes in 5 years in my old hz 1 tonner... so yeah.... i dont really wanna take it to anyone around here... lol

took the galant for its first spin today... feels like a tank compared to the cordia.... lots more body roll etc... i didnt give it a hard time but the turbo comes on alot later than i expected given its (i think) a 14b... i'm pretty happy though... got a bit of a not happy noise coming from somewhere... i'm thinking mebbe transfer case will have to look into it tomorrow...

Your slow boost might be an exhaust leak from cracks in the exhaust housing, wastegate seat or exhaust manifold or maybe just a dying turbo. When I do a pull through 3rd gear I hit 5 psi at 2400 rpm, 10 psi at 2950 rpm and 16 psi at 3550 rpm with a few exhaust leaks and a cracked exhaust manifold, how does that compare to yours?
I think you'll like the VR4, I reckon their handling is a whole other level over the Cordia, the speed that you can enter and exit a corner are way higher and you can start putting down power much earlier.

as i said i didnt really push it so that would have pushed it coming on up the rev range a bit...but i dont think its that far off the mark you guys are saying... i will take it for a run and open it up tomorrow and see what it does

cheers Jamie

When i got my galant it needed all the gaskets on the exhaust side replaced and it was missing the v clamp that holds the turbo together in the middle. It might not help your boost problem but just shows you need to go over everything carefully.

Oh , I miss my vr4 too :( , but old faithful vr4 cordia loks after me :D

2 diffrent cars, 2 diffrent handling characteristics, you just have to adjust to your new ride. Kind of like going from a gokart to a v8 supercar, each car is diffrent.

uhuh... i was just making a general statement comparing the cars.. i have no doubt that it will handle great....

its a bit of a pain hey giant... espicially buying car not running... tis a bit hard to take it for a test drive and find the lil niggily problems (or no so little as the case may be)... anyways.,.. few more things to do and if i cant find the sound the mechanic can check it out when they do the RWC for me :D
