hey guys

been a while since i actually went through with a solid build, i'll try to keep it short..but thought id upload a couple of pictures and the current situation of the cordia. ive probably had it close to a month now, my intentions are to have a solid, reliably cordia as a daily driver to and from work. seeing as i was painting it i didnt go through the effort of taking care of every single little ding or damage..i wasnt after a show stopper - just a neat daily :) so its still got some battle wounds

stripped the inside, rust treated, sound deaden and repainted floor pan..new drain plugs, new underlay and new carpet - complete AC GSR interior thrown in.

outside was pretty ordinary - managed to paint it today so thats the major hurdle in and out of the way..

i'll get to the pics in order of what i started to work on

buffed it out when i first got it hoping the oxsidized red paint would neaten up, turns out it wasn't even the original colour to start with, it had been repainted at some time and had been buffed out way too many times it was sitting thin on primer. so i ended up stripping it..

ImageImage

boot painted, through in an O.G spare tyre with original tyre from factory - still need the centre piece to hold the wheel in, and a jack

ImageImage

drivers side was damaged due to the previous owners apparently driving into a rock..drilled out lower and outer skin.. comparing bent panels with straight panels

ImageImage

cut out passenger lower quarter, it was buggered with rust..cut and shutted the section from my donar cordia

ImageImage

the joys of finishing work early on a friday..loaded up into my home made booth this arvo baha

ImageImageImage

boo yah! freshly painted..anyone knows anything about painting will know straight away it didnt end up a perfect job being a homey - still has a bit of dust through it, unfortunately copped a bit of fish eye effected spots.. might of accidentally infected my batch of paint. though, the finish off my gun is still shhaweet :P

ImageImageImage

well..thats the latest so far on it..still have to do the remainder of the hang on panels - then finish off the welding on the chassis skin..then all my focus will be on towards the mechanicals, and re doing the suspension

cheers

cheers fella's thanks for the comments. and yes its jimi's old car..

doug - im not after much from it engine wise, so long as it doesn't break on me lol.. as it is, goes good..i got a wolf for it but wont be installing it until i get serious with it. other than that, the engine will just get a complete over haul with gaskets from top to bottom, etc etc

managed to finish the hang on panels and put the car back together, looks good for what the job ended being..i didnt paint the guards as they were mint and off another car but you can spot the shade difference, so lets see how the rest of the car settles once it hardens

pretty much now that the body and interior is over, im making my way on the front end/rear end brakes/bushes. the car is absolutely shocking and unsafe to drive as it is at the moment with the car now drifting to a side once you hit boost. so, it all comes out some time this week after i relax just abit :)

cheers

lol..cheers tim, you should do it. last i saw of your paint its not that bad..you could prob get away with 1200 over the whole car and just hit it with clear :)

minor update too..front end pulled out. lots and lots of corrosion and damaged bushes, one of the facts that the car was pulling to the side and also that the radias arms weren't bolted tight to the control arm

ordered new tie rod ends, front end bushes, still need new lower ball joints and galant wheel bearings

i noticed that one tie rack end was actually good, the other was cracked..so i just replaced the one. inner tie rods seem fine, i'll see how they feel after i re-grease them and fit new boots. and dont be sorry lol, its a 20 year old car..we'd all be stupid as owners to not think of changing all this sort of stuff before we thought of doing anything else..

Awesome!

cheers george!

after today's effort i managed to refresh the lower control arm, its bloody hard and frustrating when you don't have a press. ended up make do with a tabled vice and garage floor lol. still waiting up on picking up tomorrows order, being D shape bushes for the sway bar arm, rack boots, and sway bar link bushes.

Thanks Pete,

What a bargain! I will buy a pair for mine after Uni exams.

Can you remember if they were to suite cordia? or were they adapted to suite?

Nice to see the one on the right of the last pic is actually GSL, as there is no plate welded over the hole...............it's no biggie as my left one is the same.

they were actually two different brands that were supplied to me, there to suit a cordia..i didn't have much problems fitting them up really

good spotting on the control arms too! im so glad im not as fussy as before..i would have waited or gone lengths just to make sure everything was right and genuine. oh well thats for the next one i have to restore.

has anyone tried getting the lower control arms boxed? i thought about it today but only 2/3 of it would have to be done seeing as you still need the exposure to access the radius arm bolts

Hey Pete, how good was the team4g cruise on the weekend!

It was good to see a large variety of cars at an event normally saturated with gsr lancers. Riding as passenger was in a cordia (once again) was awesome as its been a while, lol.

How did you go with solving the problems we found?

yeah the cruise was awesome! like i mentioned to you though, i wasn't 100% confident with the car in the way it handled..it felt like a boat and the steering was still out

in terms of the problems, managed to turn the fan around the right way by getting it to suck out the heat from the radiator. still hasn't sorted out the heat issue in which im still getting..so, will hook up another fan
