I don't use an adapter any more as I now run the T72 on a stainless ramhorn manifold.........the old system with the plate worked well......just a pain in the ass using 2 gaskets, the standard cordia one plus the garrett.

Well the Garret T3/4 sounds great but the 16g will do for now it's going back on tomorrow and I'm selling the t28, the T3/4 Garret is pretty expensive new unless a good 2nd hand one can be found, but to let you all know the good news and I know you will all love it, I just bought a 4G63T engine for my beast, but will be a slow build, forgies and the rest you name it... Thank you very much smokincordia for the info...

Do you realise the only difference between the N/A and turbo version is is the dish size of the piston to reduce compression and the cam lift/duration?

There are squirters in the bottom end for the pistons in the 4g63t engine plus oil lines for the turbo too... I know these things are extra on the turbo engine...

I realise there are some differences..........but the N/A head actually has the oil feed, it just has a blank in the thread.......you would need to change the sump also to include the drain line from the turbo.

N/A engines run with a 9:1 compression ratio and turbo engines 7.8:1.

Adding to Andrews post, heads are the same with a different oil distributor and cams , its awesome!

As for the squirters, you don't need to worry too much about adding them to an N/A block as you would want upgrade the shitty N/A pistons to forged slugs anyway. Forged pistons can cope without squirters as they are much better with heat and heat transfer. This is a bonus as some forged pistons will actually hit the the stock squirters (as mine did).

Another option is to install vr4 pistons into an N/A block. In which case you would want to drill the holes and tap threads for squirters. The risk involved with this is that you will have a drop in oil pressure and the N/A oil pump (if different from the turbo oil pump) may not cope with it.

In my build I used a vr4 block and installed 9:1 Wiseco pistons. I could have deleted the squirters but decided against this as I found that later model Evolution squirters are aimed at an angle and miss my pistons, where the stockies would hit the much beefier wrist pin bosses under load. If I was to delete my squrters completely, I would be left with undesirable excessive oil pressure (Porting the oil filter housing would cure this).

Nice Koray........but all I can say is the oil squirters are the to cool the piston and lube the gudgeon pin and rod........with aftermarket applications (especially pistons) without the squirters you will need to ceramic coat to reduce detonation levels....some aftermarket rods also don't have the lubrication hole.

But I agree..........I had to put smaller copper washers under my squirters to ensure the forge pistons cleared.........no good when yopu rotate the engine over to find it's stuck!!!!

Exactly right about the cooling and lubricating properties (why I kept mine).

Some aftermarket rods do not have the lubrication hole because most use non ferrous bushes with good self lubricating properties.

Is ceramic coating really necessary when squirters are not used? From my understanding, forged pistons are much better with detonation by design? Plus there is always oil splashing off the crank.

With high boost applications I would say.........Yes.......without the oil cooling the bottom of the piston detonation will occur......especially when running low octane fuel.

Cool info!
Did you ceramic coat the pistons in the 2.3 and what Cr ratio did you end up with?

Once I had squirter 2 come out of a mates vr4 during a service. When I removed the sump, only three pistons looked new.

I ended up with 7.8:1 ratio..........no need for ceramic coating as I retained the squirters but ran a larger oil cooler to ensure cooler oil temps under large boost.

But nothing wrong in having a VR4 with the extra fun, i cant wait tell i have one... Even with 200kwatw with a VR4 is great power to smack a lot of cars on the street and keep it from killing the car meaning, gearbox, mounds, twisting of the body and most of all the motor doesnt work too hard... Found another VR4 motor for myself hope it comes through. Just need an ecu to finish it off as the E6X i was supposed to get off my friend seems like its not going to happen as he thinks he cant find it...
