far out in Melbourne hone was only 10 bucks a cylinder bore was 40 and i left out R&R engine in my mind. i'm thinking about the trade price on those items not retail so theres extra but still alot of cash to put on a engine just to freshen it up.

Thanx MAD_RX2, well all good things seem to come to an end, my mate from the machine shop sent me picture message today of the piston that had been detonating and also hitting the head, so looks like ill be getting new pistons and rods, rings and bearings...

I would be looking at the block........the deck height can't be right..........but if it's only one cylinder it MAY have stretched a rod........only takes a few thou for the piston to be over.

Thats why i think it will be better to replace both pistons and rods i guess...

Post subject:  Re: My NEW Cordia Turbo Project

Just get the rods checked and replace them only if necessary. Forged pistons are pretty cheap nowadays.

I reckon most machine shops wouldn't even set the block up in their machine for $10 a cylinder. Maybe someone with a drill and a flex hone would do it for that price.

You're right that it is a fair bit of money but we are lucky that 4g62/63 are a simple engine, and easy to get in or out, otherwise it could cost a whole lot more. Typically diesel engines cost around $10000 to rebuild. If you can do all the labour yourself, you could freshen up a 4g62/63 for under $500.

I went to machine shop today to see the bad news... Well from the pics you can see the detonation on the pistons, you can see where the ring has ripped the piston upwards, on top of the piston you can see where the valves where hitting and made dents in the pistons, forgot to take pics to show you guys. Couldnt take pic of the bores cause it was to dark but you could feel from about an inch from the top of the bore to the top of it shutter marks from where the pistons were detonating causing them to jolt into the bore... Fantastic... Well one good the thing the rods are fine, the bearings are ok but cheapy ones... Valves and head will be checked next, so far machining of the block 20 thou, 20 thou over size 86mm Pistons will be put in along with rings, race bearings maybe some valves if damaged...
