Thanks Andrew, should of known it was in your thread! Knew I had seen it somewhere before. It's time to get started on this thing again!

Oh yes Mike.......just be sure to check the bores at three stages, top, centre and bottom.........if the clearances come in within tolerance re-ring the engine. :)

Sadly, no further updates. I'm planning to get to business after tax with the bottom end. In the meantime I'll be collecting parts to get ahead in some way. If all goes to plan I'll hopefully have this on the road by Xmas.

Started the process of labelling bits & pieces & taking photos today in prep for the engine pull to get the ball rolling again. IF I get my act together & utilise the weekend that I actually have off, the block will be pulled this week (pending if I get my hands on a hoist!). In other news I picked up another strut brace this arvo (not a Grumbly this time) & a pair of lowered king springs to tame the front slightly, neither were completely necessary but cheap.

Next week a set of new driveshafts to come followed by some tyres.

More updates to come.

Forgot to add I also got a hold of another water pipe, unfortunately the ends are still rust ridden, however no where near as bad as the original. Still an issue nonetheless, so I'll be making a few visits around to see who can work some magic.

And last night I scored a bargain on a 1 month old engine hoist, $100 later that is now ticked off the list.

Got a day off tomorrow so mostly everything under the hood should be disconnected & out of the way. Photos to come.

Looking good Mike, you may need to scrub that engine bay with a toothbrush! :)

Toothbrush and foaming bug and tar remover, works a charm.

Great work BTW.

Thanks fellas, early days but happy to be making some progress on the old girl.

The toothbursh & engine bay were put on hold as I spent the 17 degrees we had the other day in Melbourne cleaning & painting a few things such as the PS pump, PS reservoir, dump pipe, starter motor etc. I'm waiting for another paint-able day to start on some more. The boot floor which I am using as storage in the cordia is slowly becoming crowded with clean painted parts, I'll get the photos up soon. They are looking grouse in gloss black.

I've decided to go with an all black theme under the hood, the only things I'll be leaving unpainted is the turbo compressor housing & maybe the valve cover lettering, we shall see.

Hey Mike, you will need to change your user name from 0 psi to something that relates to your AB turbo.

The lot of it. I had the black/silver contrast in mind originally though I don't think I've ever seen an all black themed cordia bay before which makes me want to see how it would look.

I personally believe the all black would making identification of the engine difficult, when you rebuild the engine surely when you open the bonnet people would say "wow" with the black/silver look, all black would be a disappointment.........but that's my opinion. :)

Read my mind, need to raise the 0 to the stock boost pressure figure  It will definitely need a change now though!

That's true, the black & silver would most certainly leave a refreshing first impression of a newly overhauled engine & it's components & that goes for my own eyes as well  but we'll see, not 100% entirely as plug leads will most likely be red or blue & the strut brace will be polished & if I can help it maybe a few select shiny nuts & bolts. Time will tell if I start going indecisive once it starts going back together :)

Early days Mike..........depends if you want the factory look or not.

You are making great progress.........keep up the good work to ensure the cordia lives on.

With the much appreciated advice & support from you few blokes on here it's a huge help towards another salvaged cordia.

Small update from today - spent a good few hours with some bug/tar remover + cut & polish & a lot of elbow grease to either side of the engine bay. The paint is in a lot better condition than what I imagined so there won't be an urge to respray it.

Here is the 95% complete passenger side in comparison to the drivers side before I started on it:

The build plate still needs a careful clean up with something as seen.

Putrid! The firewall rust is next which will definitely need a lick of paint once treated.
