For the money spent, I'm extremely happy with the end result. Despite the workshop being on the other side of town from me I'll definitely be returning for future work.

I did a quick test fit yesterday & as expected it's all good, just a shame majority of the pipe will be out of sight!

Some new updates coming shortly. Import body parts are among them which I'm currently trying to organize & yet another new heart for the car which has come up on offer. Other than that I've managed to fit the turbo fuel lines & tank to the car this past month.

I have been busy working on the Starion which has further postponed the cars progress, but everything is there ready to go on, it's just a matter of time now.

Last update for the year & one of only a few for 2016's dormant progress. Today I received a package which boxed a set of tail lights & rear garnish from an early JP model 1800 GT Turbo Cordia. I accidentally I guess you could say, sourced these through a forum in NZ after posting up a wanted ad for other import Cordia related parts when someone replied with the below posted wreck photo from which these parts were removed from.

The garnish (one of 2 types) which I've been trying to source for a very long time is in excellent condition structurally & will only need a paint to bring it back to life. 2 new holes will need to be drilled in the rear panel to accommodate this piece. Unless alternatively, the threaded studs are removed & double sided tape used on the flat surface on the backside of it followed by the number plate mounted on to hold everything in place. This I will decide on later if I want to go drilling holes. I'm sure Andrew will chime in on this & how he mounted his, which I'm interested to hear.

The tail lights are in average condition but salvageable, mind you this was after I cleaned them inside & out of all the rust & moss. The outer lens of both will need a good hard polish & a scratch sanded out (top left on the drivers light) as well as a cracked outer border repaired on the passenger light. Nonetheless with some work they should come up nice.

The car which they were taken from, rotting away in a wrecker somewhere in NZ.

The rear garnish only requires the two lower mounting holes to be drilled in the panel.........the others mount to original holes, standard aussie number plate won't fit...........you will have to either cut or bend the plate!

Good to know they line up. It's been a while since I've had the original tailgate piece off, I'd forgotten where the mounting holes for it were located. I'm not sure about SA, but in VIC we have the USA & now the JP style plates which are both the same dimensions as the original plates from back in the mother country so no more cutting or bending!

First job for 2017 I decided to pull the rear end apart to get ready for paint & to also fix any minor rust along the way, while I was at it I hadn't realized just how bad the hatch was rotting at either end from the inside. After a quick clean with the wire wheel you can see it has eaten through 1 of 2 panels quite significantly on the LHS pictured. I'm tossing up whether to find a replacement hatch, or attempt to repair it, but I'd like to hear some opinions as it's a tight area & basically on the edge if new metal had to be welded in which doesn't look like an easy task for an amateur.

I'm not sure how much of a long term fix it would be if I continue to wire wheel the affected area until I reach clean metal, then rust treat it & bog it up?

The top looks fine Mike, I had the same problem with the AC...........replaced the top with clean metal.........three years later it has returned.........double sealed panels are a pain to rust proof!!!!

That sucks to hear Andrew, have you got around to repairing it again? How is the AC going these days?

I'm disappointed I ever drilled into this GSL hatch!

I will repair it in a few weeks, you can tell where I welded it.........the AC will be driven again in SA soon.

I'd bog that up with some high strength filler. I've used this 2 part filler with no problems. Best thing is it won't rust again. Just prep the area thoroughly. Don't use too much as it can be time consuming to sand back. I use it as a strong foundation and then use the sandable bog to get the shape.

I've used POR15 against rust many times with great results.
