This forum will be upgraded to PhpBB 3.0 this evening. I'm hoping everything will go smoothly.

The forum will be down for several hours.

The database will be backed up at about 7:00pm Melbourne time tonight so any posts made after this time may be lost. So just be aware of this when posting around this time.

The upgrade has again been delayed due to technical problems with the hosting provider. I've contacted them to have this sorted out.

Due to our forum database being quite large the upgrade could take some time to be fully completed.

I'll keep you guys informed.

I am very please to announce that the Cordia forum has finally been upgraded version PhpBB 3.0.

There are many improvements over the previous version including much, much better spam protection.

Over the next few days I'll be customising the colours and styles similar to how it was before. Everything should operate normally during this period.

Please let me know if you encounter any issues.

Cheers

Kham

One little odd thing, it doesn't seem to handle the German character in my signature... it's meant to be an umlaut o (o with the dots).

Strange :P

EDIT: ahh it was just the DB conversion, re-did it and it works fine :P

As phpBB 3.0 is still quite new there aren't very many mods written for it yet.

I have found a quick reply mod for it though but I haven't tested it yet. If all goes well the quick reply feature will be be back in the next couple of days.

Nicely done Kham, good work. How did you solve the DB backup issue - did you end up moving to a host that allowed a longer max_execution? How did you back up the DB to move it?

Post subject:  Re: Upgrade to PhpBB 3.0

I actually moved the site away from the old host (Bizland.com) to my own dedicated server. I was able to back up the database through PhpMyAdmin but I wasn't able to successfully restore it on my server. I ran into heaps of problems with permissions, different hostnames, database login details etc.

Luckily, the hosting company that manages my server (HostDime.com) were really helpful. They actually restored the database for me and made the necessary changes so I could connect to it. Once I had version 2.0 of the forum migrated to my server I was able to run the upgrade. I didn't run into any max_execution errors this time. If I did I would have been able to change the limits myself anyways.

You should also notice that the forum runs heaps quicker. This is due to the combination of running it on a server with a lower load as well as a new feature in phpbb 3.0 that caches the forum pages.

So yeah, I'm wrapped that it's all finally done.

Gotta say, it's a big improvement. Not that it really bothers me, but for some reason my post count has dropped significantly... :?:

Post subject:  Re: Upgrade to PhpBB 3.0

There was an automated post count clean up done so it could have been due to that. I'm not 100 percent certain but my best explanation would be that some posts in threads that were deleted in the past may not have reflected in some members' post counts. So the clean may have just corrected that.

How significant was the drop EVO85?

Sweet, glad you got it sorted Kham.

The old Cordia style mixed with phpBB3 looks fantastic, nice work.

About 1/3; 520 posts to around 350 odd....

Not to worry, life goes on. :)

That's heaps EVO85, I didn't think it would be that much.

And blackGSR, a new quick reply feature has been added. It's a little different to the old one. You need to click on the quick reply button for the box to appear. Your browser must also be Javascript enabled for it to work.

Post subject:  Re: Upgrade to PhpBB 3.0

Hmmm now I look at the post counts it seems everyone's has gone down a bit? I'm sure mine was up around the 3k mark.

Maybe phpBB2 was just crap at keeping post counts :P

Post subject:  Re: Upgrade to PhpBB 3.0

My guess is that previously, when threads were deleted or posts were pruned, users' post counts may not have been updated. Phpbb2 did have a "Resynchronise post counts" function that I hadn't run in a couple of years so that probably be why. Phpbb3 would must have just recalculated it all.

first up great work on the update  seems to running well and is great

just one thing i've noticed, everytime i come back to the site, the old posts are still listed as new, makes it hard to keep on track of actual new posts, is this a forum error or my computer error? the posts i've read are listed as old, but before it would clear the new ones everythim i left (i'm sure u know what i mean lol).

anywho jus wonderin if everyones getting that?

cheers kham!

great work :P
