Just on this topic...

It'd be a whole lot easier to spot bot posts if people didn't reply to them.

If you don't reply, is clearly visible that last post was made by a bot.
If you do reply, it means going through all the topics to try and find bot posts. As it is, individually deleting posts can be time consuming, so the more posts get replied to, the longer it takes to delete/clean up after.

Most attacks are cleaned up within 48 hours, which I think is not too bad. Plus as D3bb4 has already said above it is a lot easier for us to track and clean up the spam posts if they are not replied to. We do our best.

Given the dropping number of active users I don't think additional moderators are required.

The primary issue I've noticed is the occasional spurt in spam accounts so I have been more vigilant in deleting those.

If there are other reasons apart from spam to warrant bringing on additional moderators please let me know.
