Is there anyways to stop these at all?
harder sign up process?
i know it's been covered before but no action has been done!..
just so annoying!

All gone now.

Action has been done, kham's been deleting spam accounts regularly, and topics/posts have been removed.

We just get hit with waves of them at a time, but as said in another topic, have a little patience, as there isn't a mod online 24/7 to delete this stuff.

FRONTN, a tougher anti-spam system is currently in place which has reduced spam accounts by over 95% since its introduction in April this year.

If this system wasn't working we'd be getting more than 15 times the amount of spam than we currently are now.

As long as there is a monetary benefit to spammers they will always be looking for new ways to beat existing systems so unfortunately, we will have to live and deal with at least some spam.

no probs, thanx for the update.. i did notice a reduction.. but the other day was just excessive..
thank god we have more regular mods..

With regard to spams/bots, the forum is head and shoulders above the way it was a month or so ago.

It is improving - but every now and then there's a sudden hit - and if a mod isn't online for a couple of hours then somebody is going to notice the excess spam. Just be patient as most of it is removed within 24 hours!

Well this will be my last post on here until i see an improvement...
I log online here daily I think will now turn to weekly...
I'm also on a few other forums that do not experience these issues...
There's a few of us active members that DO own cordia's that I believe can make a difference with moderating this forum!!!
Until an improvement has been shown I will not contribute to this forum for the time being...

Agreed, but it should not be solely up to Debba to cleanse this site. Where are the other moderators?

BTW, I vote to dismiss Cowboy Dan (ex Astaroth) of his duties as an administrator.... from an administrating point of view, he has provide nothing and is infact a waste of space. Until recently he didn't even log on for 3 months!!

I won't be logging on regularly and surely won't be offering any constructive input until this issue is addressed.

is this an issue with phpbb? if so I suggest consider replacement software. I don't see this on any other forums. I don't know if it's because they are more resilient or if the mods delete them before I notice.

I know Kham and the mods don't get paid and they do a great job so this isn't a whinge at them; I'm just stating a fact --- we're getting lots of bots, and it's annoying ;)

Does anyone want to make me a mod? I'm on here most days and happy to assist if it's just a matter of deleting

Is email validation turned on?

I look at the site atleast 3 times a day and have time to waste deleting spam so im happy to delete spam bots

i just looked at the activation code.... i cant even read it damn bots can see better than me

with the amount of new people we have coming to the forum lately might as well just put it on manual activation and chuck me n' Merlin rights to let people in and not the bots

or move to even stricter joining things for instance the first post in one place first and don't make it blatantly obvious should slow them down at least some more

Could it be we are targeted? perhaps the add company on our banner?

how can u tell if there bots or not?

maybe its just some forum member being a total wank...

carnt u ban tha ip from what there signing up with.......?then if it is a member doing theyll be caught out...

The vast majority of these spam accounts are bots. I also ban the IPs of spam accounts (and sometimes the email domains as well) but does little as many spammers usually go through proxy servers or have other tricks to hide their IPs.

I would only want go back to manual activation as a last resort as it is time consuming to review each account and it isn't a very good experience from the user's point of view as they won't be able to access the site after registration.
