I went to drive my cordia the other day and heard a nice big grinding noise. First thought was hoping it wasn't another waterpump issue (I've had more than a few). But no, it was the idler for the balance shafts. I should have replaced it and the timing idler when I rebuilt it, but I was young and short of cash at the time....

See if you can spot the differneces...

Soon as I had loosened the timing cover out came ball bearings and the shattered remains of the cage. At least all the belts are still fine and nothing else went. So new idlers to order in tomorrow then time to hit the road again and fix up the other two cars....

It had shattered while driving, lol. The pulley was only sitting in place because of the timing cover and fell off once I removed it. Alll the balls and cage remains were in the timing cover also. Luckily I was only driving it down the street, then put it straight into the shed

shit , I thought you heard a noise and then pulled it apart ,

the worst noise Ive had so far is the harmonic balancer splitting in half while driving , it was just a massive bang and I lost all the belts also

I should have pulled it straight apart. I heard a slight noise when I started it, but thought it was just the alternator playing up again (its a little noisy when cold) so started to drive down the street. Got to the end of the block and it started making clunking noises. Did the stuff down the street I needed, checked into the noise some more, realised it was water pump or idler and put it in the shed once I got back. Its been sitting there for a few weeks and I've been driving my brothers car since (which is now having its own issues). Hoping the parts show today and I can get her back on the road.

Got all the parts, so the cordia is up and running once again. I wish there was a little more room to enable the timing cover to come off properly in the car.

Didn't get to drive it for too long :( went to fuel it up for a 200km drive today, was checking tyre pressure and notice radiator fluid coming from near the bottom hose. Not sure if it was the hose letting go or it the radiator cracked. So had to quickly swap to the gf's car. Will have a look at it tomorrow and hopefully it wont cost to mouch...
