Hi guys,
I've had a lot of trouble lately trying to locate an AUS 90 amp Alternator for the VR4 4G63.

I have many different part numbers and models, but no one can seem to give me a DEFINITE part number.

Have looked at other models like late Mitsubishi, Hyundai, Toyota, etc, but the mounting bridges are smaller (not 80mm across the mounting plate)

Any help will be appreciated.

PS. Please don't send me ebay links from America, the price plus postage is a killer!!!!

I reckon that one is MD149750 90 amp as I've looked at this before, can't find one though, my best guess was the MD153843 90 amp from an auto VR4, can't seem to find one of those either.

I'm not sure now, really need one with the 78mm attachment, I've spent many hours at the wreckers removing alternators on other cars only to find the are around 60mm.

Plus cars that are "advertised" like Sonata as having 90 amp alternators all turn out to be 75 amp.

Trav, this is a very common problem in cars. the solution is called "the big three". It is a simple fix, here is the solution:
Run 4 gauge cable from battery (+) to alt (+),
Battery (-) to chassis,
Chassis (-) to block.
Remembering to solder all terminals and you're done!

Once complete you should see 14.7 volts with the car at idle.

I often go one step further on my own cars and run an additional cable from bat (-) to alternator housing.

This mod cures many problems, small list to name a few:
Dimming headlights when stereo or ac comes on,
Poor cold crank performance,
and improves batt/alt life.

I have the evo 9 Ralliart Earth cable kit and was thinking of fitting that direct wire too, I got a second hand alternator for the moment , its due to heat that mine is dying off , and I only use the car maybe 2 to 4 times a year aswell which doesnt help , plus its running a eclipse sat nav , and the alarm takes heaps out of it too

So.........I look on Ebay to find a 90 amp alternator, I find one:

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/281118796850 ... EBIDX%3AIT

When it arrives the thing is blank, no part number no reference to amperage......nothing except for TRUMP engraved on the back.

Looks exactly the same as the 75 amp and mounts the same, hell even has the same number of windings...............might be time for a bench test.

May have just wasted my money!!!

Turns out this one is 90 AMP..............I asked the guy how to tell, main differences are the 75 AMP has a 22mm nut on the armature where the 90 is 24mm making the whole rotating mass 2mm bigger and the number of windings is increased by thicker wire, you can tell the difference if you look between the two.

Time to remove the 75 and add the 90. :)

After so much research here is the download, the 75 amp alternator runs only 3 diodes where the 90 amp runs 4..........you can easily make your 75 to 90 with a new diode pack...........the armature is actually the same as two of the windings are spliced together, you can check by the rear of the alternator.
