Your car: 1984 AB cordia turbo
I bought my 1st cordia in 84 was yellow none turbo.
I use to fun race at the traffic lights against datsun 180b
toyota corona & corollas holden Gemini on my way to work.
Obviously can't do it these days or get fine by cameras etc.
Also tried to race v8 commodores or 6 cylinder fords but no fun as I would loose
Every time a year later found out turbos were around killing v8's and of course
I got me my 1st cordia turbo was silver in color and very fast .4 cylinder cars
Use to leave them for dead,a friend of mine had v8 308 commodore and I beat him
few times and got him hooked building his 308 cause he couldn't bear the shame.
Cap car for 2 years till someone ran up the back of my car and
Became total loss it was hard hit.
Got me vl commodore turbo I though bigger motor more power
Also capped wife happy bigger car.
It was a big disappointment in power just didn't have the get up go
like my silver cordia in fact I have owned 3 other cordias ever since
and none of these cars performed the same.
Yes I owned a vr4 once upon a time same thing no balls.
Decided to restore my pride and joy my wife says im going throw
Middle age crisis.
Its been fun restoring also learning the mechanical side
Its keeping my brain fit .im 50 years old unemployed over 30 years experience
License spraypainter semi retired from painting cars as 1/2 my lung is dead.
Got me forklift license tried to find me new job. Finding very hard to get job
In different area of work .Can't get government assistance like the dole cause
Wife works.
I have always worked never ever received any government assistance.
Its amazing how there's people out there never worked a day in there life
And get all the assistance they need.
I have applied to places like bunnings as I known tools paint etc
And nothing they rather employ teens with no experience like maccas.
So is very difficult for me to restore car as money is huge issue.
Restoring my car is what's keeping me sane.
I can only take one day at time.

Thank you for reading.

Totally agree, I'm nearly 50 myself, so glad I have a job that pays well.............finding work at the later stage in life is difficult, cheaper to employ the younger ones due to cost.

Keep at the good work. Slow progress is still progress. I'm 25, only just started back at my apprenticeship in mechanics late last year. All because since I hit 18 nobody wanted to give me a shot. You'll find your spot. We all do. ;)

thanks for reply.
i have great family .been married 29 years.
i have 2 boys and 1 is smart like his mother
plans everything his good at everything he does
his IT computer stuff i don't really understand it.
got few awards.
my other son is like me likes getting his hands dirty.
his called technician mechanic yes that's right i have a mechanic
in family .
why i ask silly questions about engine about lifters is cause
the so called young tech mechanics have no clue about old cars .
he's been doing mechanics now for 6 years doing a lot of extra study's.
to be tech etc.
i ask him question he says not interested in shit boxes and walks away.

Well............cars these days just require oil changes, plugs, filter............engine technology has improved vastly..........always good to actually "teach" the younger generation about older systems............hey, old cars still run around on the road. :)

That's where I'm lucky, I work in a small workshop and work on all types of things. Being located in a less wealthy area, we also get a lot of cars with lack of maintenance so big jobs are actually quite common. Surprised the kid isn't interested, most mechanics I know are only into the older cars because of the simplicity. These cars these days are all about diagnoses via computer. Makes it easier but almost makes you miss the feel of doing physical checks.

He likes v8's or the evo models not the vr4 cordia he says engine the only
Thing good about it.
also only no more them 5 years old cars he hates working on old cars
he works for huge car dealer called motor group they have Mitsubishi, ford,Holden etc
they have a mechanic for each individual company he does Holden atm but only small jobs
studying evo's wants to be evo tech .
So I get no help from him.
Like Andrew said most young mechanics only remove and replace parts.
Cars do tell you what it needs done people have it easy these days.
Anyway change subject. I picked up 4g62 engine ,center console,a side mold, for 50 bucs.
But I spent 5 hours on fuel I think 40bucs that was 2.5 hours each way also
Had to beg my son for his v8 commodore cause it had towbar also had to higher
Trailer another 40 bucs got it from bunnings.
Got parts of a guy from this forum viewtopic.php?f=6&t=17922&p=167189&hilit=engine+for+sale#p167189
his nice guy young family beautiful kids.
I wish I had more money to give him his got 3 cordias with huge plans I hope he stays on course
Doing up the cars cause keeping cars out in weather will do no one any favors.
I wish he would come talk on forum his very passionate about cordias.
Anyway about engine he gave me has no compression at all did wet test as well.
So decided to pull head off and what I found is the black carbon that's on top pistons
Was broken off in big chunks and I believe was keeping valves open so got me new head gasket and stem seals
Spent almost 80 bucs for parts im still waiting coming from USA .
Now im thinking maybe rings are bad as well so im thinking in putting old head gasket back on bolt head in test compression
Before I get the good stuff arrives.
Unless there's better way in checking?

Fernando as long as you enjoy working on cars , that's what matters.

If it takes you longer it doesn't matter.

I honestly never pay attention to what others drive or what's seen as being cool,
whatever makes you happy enjoy it.

In my opinion anything old is better then what they have today.

Kids today might have Ipad's and other crap but I a glad I grew up in 80's

I look at these new cars such as Holdens SS, Fg turbos, Wrx's etc etc

To me ,non of them have character.. just like most people today.

I was restoring a hq 1 tonne. But ended up selling that as I neglected all other projects (cordia being one of them)
Good to finally see some people with a variety of car choices

I have to admit,I am a bit of a sucker for old school v8's hehe

Love HQ's

This is my old beast, sold it off last year, but it took me 6 years to restore it, bot and nut

I am glad I did, otherwise cordia wouldn't be an option.

Centerline wheels look though.. :)
