A chick i work with was behind me the other week as we were leaving. She was in her Toyota 86. We have to negotiate a few roundabouts leaving work and she said she tried to keep up with me...but no go. Truth is i saw her and gave it a bit. Not much, cause the car wasn't warmed up properly.

Anyway next day she asks me what kind of shitbox is that your driving? I told her. She's in her 40's so she vaguely had a recollection of them. Either way she was impressed by it. She seems to be into cars a bit along with her boyfriend.

So fast forward to tonight. As she comes on the graveyard shift she asks me whats the absolute minimum i would want for my car. She told her boyfriend about it, who told a friend, who is apparently extremely keen and would be willing to pay 10K...or so she says. I know this woman though and i'm sure i would get a real offer if i said yeah i want to sell.

The timing is kind of perfect as i know a guy who is putting a schmick evo 8 on the market around mid july...and he will give me first dibs if i'm interested. He wants around 19K for it. If i could get roughly 10k for the cords i'd be laughing. If i could get close to 6K i don't know what i would do.

Side note: A couple of months ago on my way home from work i spot a familiar set of taillights at a set of lights. I luckily managed to pull up behind him and yep it's a cordia. White like mine but looking a bit ragged. We take off and i manage to get in the left lane and get side by side. 2 blokes both looking at me like who's this dickhead. Then they see what i'm driving and they both start cracking up. We had a chat at the next few sets of lights. First cordia i've seen in my area in literally 4 years, maybe longer. Said he just bought it, 1.8, big cooler. Was having trouble finding parts. I directed him here but don't know if he joined. Still regret not asking him to stop at a servo for a look. Anyway we had a little red light race. I planted it. His car obviously had some work done on it but i pulled ahead. Next lights he asks me, 2 litre? yep. I get home and check my microguess log and apparently i had hit 6730 rpm @ 20psi. Put a big smile on my face that did. The cordia is the only car i've driven that puts a proper big smile on my face after a spirited run. The car is just fu!kin nuts!

I'd like an evo and can afford one without selling the cordia. But i can't store it undercover which means rust. I've put so much bloody work into this car. I know every nut, bolt and screw. Just recently put on a new head gasket with reco'd head and arp studs. Those studs work considering i've also logged 6300rpm @ 25psi. I get boost creep with the internal gate, but obviously the engine and injectors are up for it. The engine is just so fu$king strong, as well as the gearbox. Car has no rust and i resprayed it myself about 12 months ago. Rebuilt every caliper, built a custom console, clutch and brake lines all braided...the list goes on. The car is as i want it to be and i'm very happy with it (except for maybe a set of enkei tarmacs). Took years to get there, and a bit of coin...but it's there.

I'm not sure what to do. Nostalgia and rarity will definately push up the price on a well looked after cordia. But i'd like to drive something rear wheel or all wheel drive. A cordia has been my only car for 14 years. I'm just not sure if i could sell it even if i was offered 20 grand. I don't think anyone could look after it the way i have...present company excluded of course. Will be so hard to let go.

Anyways, sorry for the long diatribe. I got all excited at the offer and then thought about what i'd lose driving home and thought i would vent where people understand. Cheers for reading.

Your car: 1985 Mistubishi Cordia AB GSR
1986 Mistubishi Cordia AC GSR
1997 Mazda Rx7
1980 Mazda B1800
1984 Mazda B2000
10 k is very attractive, but for me when you have a bond that strong, you love driving and you can financially afford 2 cars to you may as well keep it! build a carport! lol I kinda know your pain, I've been tossing up to sell my FD to get an rx3 but i love it too much! ...on second thought maybe you shouldn't listen to me I am a bit of a sentimental hoarder lol

Especially being your first car. My first car was my mums torana. I would pay almost anything to have it back :(

I've got the sentimental streak too. Bought a pair of jordans 6 years ago, one's i've wanted since 1992. I wore them to death but i can't bring myself to throw them out lol.

I've been thinking about a carport but i'd have to go for something fully enclosed. No point storing it if it's not fully protected from the elements.

i have a post here for everyone to share there
their stories.
viewtopic.php?f=3&t=17952

After reading your story,i feel for you!
Don't sell your car ,you will regret it!
If you sell it them you will realize you miss it .
After 5 months you get another but you will find it will never be the same.
Simple reason all cordias on gumtree ,carsales,eBay etc.
Under 5k will be bad buy trust me I know.
Even if you buy one for 10k your not going to be happy.
My suggestion higher evo for week or 2 try it see if puts a smile on your
face them make the decision good luck.

I would suggest that you keep that car.

I've been in that position before.

Yeah life moved on and I got older had more money to afford and build
kick ass cars but always.... missed the cordia.. always

If you sell it, most likely you will not see it again.

Money will come and go in life, do not base your decision on $$$

I've build a 500 HP camaro , 6 years it took me , complete rebuild, insane build

and guess what?

When I found FWDJET after a decade, It made me more happy then all the muscle cars
I had.

It is the memories that come with it, it is like a family member.

As Eric Bana puts it simply "Love the beast" :)

Yep everyone is pointing towards keeping it. Including me. I sold my pride. And it kills me everyday.
If it makes you happy. There's no point trading that for something that 'may' fill the spot.
Only sell if you 100% know you'll be happier ;)
If in doubt, don't sell out!

Dont get your hopes up with someone actually gonna go forward, and pay you 6k-10k for your cordia.

They will do a online search and see such cars are worth $500-$1500.

Travis, I bet you if you found your blue one, you would buy it ,no matter the state she is in?

Am I correct? :)

Ask any of the old members here, they will all tell you how much they miss them after they sold them.

Your car: DOHC 2.3 VR4 85 AB GSR
Immaculate Stock 86 AC GSR
I have thought about selling the AC plus all of my parts with it..............then I think about how much time and effort I put into the build..........if I were to have the money I still have no car................goes for both of my praised possessions.

Your car: Immaculate AB Cordia Turbo which I purchased new in 1985.
BMW X5 3.0D
Ford Ranger Wildtrak MK11
Yes keep it , somethings you just cant replace ,especially the memories.
I have had mine since new and is in absolute mint condition ,probably isnt worth much dollar wise but it makes me feel 21 again (my age when I bought it) when I go for a drive in it ,which doesn't happen very often. The wife and I put in some cassettes and play the songs we loved 30 years ago, Good times !!!!.
I realise the money is handy to fund the next vehicle but if you can afford it hang onto it so as you can appreciate it in years to come.

You cant get stuff all car wise for 10k. Sure you can get something newer, something safer, with less kms but you will NEVER get the car back.

Get the evo and get a good quality car cover for your cordia if you have no where to put it.

If the lady wants something quicker than her 86, tell her to get a 6 cyl falcon commodore on gas.

Nah i haven't sold it. I'm a procrastinator anyway, so i don't make any big decisions in a hurry. Plus it wasn't for her, it was her boyfriends mate who was interested.

All things considered, and taking into account what you blokes are saying, i won't sell it. Mad_rx2 is right. Even though i'd never get 10k for it (thanks for your input chosenone), if per chance i could walk away with 5k i'd always regret it. I'd get nowhere near the amount of car i've got with that. I'm seriously looking into laying a slab in the backyard and building a garage shed with enough space to store it plus tinker on something else. Take it out occasionally during the turbo friendly winter months.
