Well, basically I got defected a month ago for having the car too low, too loud, catch can venting to atmosphere and having too many 'air' mods, meaning that i had both a cooler and a pod.

I chucked stock springs in, stock exhaust, made the catch can not vent to the atmoshpere and disconnected the cooler. I got the defect removed by getting a RWC and handing it (nicely) to Vicroads, only to get a letter a week later stating that i had to go to the EPA to get my car tested due to getting a defect.

I went there today to get everything checked out... after an hour of them putting their heads under, around and inside my car and engine bay and probing my exhaust the conversation ended up being something like this:

"Your CO levels are too high and the exhaust is too loud." said the mean old EPA guy.
"Oh, how high and how loud?" i asked.
"Well, the limit is 90dB and your exhaust is 91dB." replied the bad man. "And the high CO level means you are running rich."
"Running rich in a Cordia? Not possible!" i exclaimed.

So just before he packed everything away i asked if he could retest the CO levels again... but before he did, i grabbed my trusty green screwdriver and adjusted the rich/lean screw to 'lean'.
WOW! the CO levels went from 10% (rediculously high) to 1% (rediculously normal). The mean old epa guy was pretty cool in the end because he let me use his expensive equipment to check and adjust the richness levels, while keeping it all within the legal CO limits.

All i have to do now is come back with an even more stock (?!?!?) exhaust and then i'm all clear to face another day.

The point of the story is: don't get slapped by raw bacon because it will leave a stain on your windscreen.

Peter.

Well, my car is finally out of the bad books with the epa. Got the exhaust noise down to 80dB without spending anything...

The rich/lean screw is located behind the throttle body which faces towards the passenger side area.

If you turn it too low, then the car will misfire (and probably ping when you boot it). If you turn it too high, it will also misfire and make your fuel economy go to the shit. I set mine a fraction below halfway.

A pretty crude way of adjusting fuel mixtures, but it works! 8)

Not all Cordias have them though, AC were made without them as they have o2 sensors instead and not all AB/AAs had either.

Glad to hear your cleared.

The voltage comming out of the adjuster should be between 1V and 4V 4 V being leaner., mine was buggered so i fitted a varible resistor to replace it and it works fine, i set mine for 4v, ...maybe i should try and richen it a little se if power is beter....no pinging so far on the current setting, turning the screw changes the engine note and to the point where you can see the black smoke form the exhaust, it make sthat much difference.....

pete, maybe you could get a voltage reading on what yours is on atm if your is set correctly...ours would be within a bees dick of being ok if we use same voltage..

Dylan

I wish I had a mixture screw on my AC, everywhere I turbo time I leave a huge black mark on the ground from fumes! Though it only runs lean on idle, when I had it dynoed the fuel was all over the shop on 15psi.
