I've been having a cutout problem where the car will just stop, whether idling, fast idle ( 2000 rpm and above ) and driving along. This has only just happened recently after 3 years of reliable running. Changed E101s, fuel filter and checked for leaks. Still stops. I'm pulling out whats left of my receding hairline ( prolly due to owning a Cordia ). Any suggestions.
Cheers Ron
Thanks for the working E101 Bitza. At least I have a spare if I ever work out what's wrong.

Sounds like a coolant temp sensor..........the ECU can't tell when it's running temp leaving the TBI to run DEAD rich.

Check the ohms of the sensor and it's voltage.........both should drop as the engine warms up.

Running rich. Probably explains why it runs like crap sometimes when I start it up while it's already warm ( this is after the problem first started ). To be honest, " searching " has been my best friend but I'm starting to get a little pisseddoff. So if anyone can provide a link or pics of where the coolant sensor is, it will be gratefully appreciated. LOL

Just kidding...I'll be a good forum member and search.

It's located above the temp sender in the inlet manifold...........passenger side.

Sorry I don't have a pic.............haven't run a 62 in years.

Your car: MY car? hmmm a black hunk of metal that moves once every year
they match up to the magna, take it in, very easy match up from the CTS book
should be around 20 bucks or so.

OK fellas totally pissed off now. Put in a new CTS and it still stalls. I have a feeling that there are bursts of richness to the injectors because I've caught it before it stalls ie give it more pedal, runs rough and spews black smoke, runs fine for a few more seconds then stalls again. Any other problem areas/sensors where it will cause it to run rich. Thanks Ron

Have you checked error codes?

Could be a faulty AFM or MAP sensor.

Bitza, the AFM was ripped out waaay before I bought the car. So that would leave the MAP sensor. Obviously that's on the manifold somewhere and is it an over the counter part? Sorry for the ignorance. Old School NA V8 and still learning about boost, sensors and computers.

The MAP sensor is on the firewall (passenger side next to the E101), just make sure it has a good manifold reference and none of the vacuum hoses are split.

So its running without the AFM??
Check the bost sensor on the firewall as per the post above and see if the lines are cracked, also with mine it will run rich and foul plugs if its not plugged into the correct output on the throttlebody. there is a diagram on the forums here somewhere on which one its meant to be plugged into. i would put money on a vacum leak somewhere with those symptoms

also replace plugs, leads just for good measure after you have checked the map sensor, if its been running rich and fouling plugs with a cracked boost sensor line it will run badly and idle high.

another thing to try is resetting the TPS (throttle position sensor) there is an FAQ on here somewhere
