Took my old 5th gear canister off yesterday and noticed it was half full of gearbox oil. Does anyone know if this is normal? Everything was attached and working properly.

I want to piss the canister off completely but i don't want gearbox oil getting into the manifold.

The canister runs off the inlet manifold...........could be engine oil.

No it is definately gearbox oil...it's got a different smell to engine oil and it was pretty clean when i let it run out. Have you heard off this happening before?

Bitza, was there any problems getting into 5th when you got rid of your canister?

Yeah that's what i was thinking...all the excess got sucked into the canister. I'll run it for a while, if it doesn't catch any oil then i'll get rid of it. It's a pain to try and get it in a good spot with the vr4 engine.

Undo your gearbox fill point and see what comes out..........it's at the front of the engine.

It's already done. But the canister that was full of oil is on a different car now...and i've checked that too. 2.3 litres of oil these gearboxes take. I was right on that and still the canister got oil in it.

Appreciate your responding bitza...you seem like the last guy who is willing to answer what are probably dumb questions...like this next one.

It's unrelated to topic but do RX7 injectors require a separate o-ring where the injector makes contact with the head? They look like they have their own seal....but i guess there's no harm in putting one on.

When I was running RX7 injectors in the old engine I still used the standard VR4 seals.........they were a little tight (due to the RX7 have a larger pintle) but worked well.
