Hey guys,

Forgive me if this question has been answered before.
I am running a fairly modified 4g63 and am having issues with 4 puck clutch plates snapping near the centre or popping out damping springs.
Wondering what clutches some of you higher horsepower guys are using and how reliable they are.

Cheers.

Buy a rigid centre. Problem solved!

They have less things to go wrong and therefore can handle higher shock loading. Additionally, the feedback from them is amazing!

Also, I would advise against flat shifting (if this is something that you do) as NLTS is simple to equip and far more forgiving.

I am currently running the xtreme performance 4 puck clutch plate
With a custom modified pressure plate.
This is the 3rd one to blow springs out.
Are some guys using the exedy version, how does it handle.
Not too keen on a solid centre, scared ill just break gearboxes again.

In that case, tell us a bit about your driving style. Are you hard on the clutch? do you flat shift or launch often? is it a street or track car?

As most would know, springs don't just fall out of clutch plates. There has to be something causing the issue.

How modified is your vr4?

As far as im concerned my driving style is not that harsh. I have actually being trying to go easy on this last clutch hoping it would hold up.
Car is rarely driven and have been pretty nice on gear changes, especially after all the clutches and boxes ive been through.
I have had the odd 1/4 mile run where it does see some harsher treatment.
What clutch plates are other cordia guys running or do they also have these issues?
Clutch guys who have looked at damaged parts keep telling me it is due to torque not impact.

Vr4 has average mods
20g turbo running 20psi
Ecu upgrade
Fuel system upgrade
Front mount
Soon to have quaife lsd

Thats the problem. Your using a aftermarket clutch disk with additional custom work to the pressure plate. It appears that what your doing is affecting the disk. The disk and plate must match accordingly. Looks like the custom built pressure plate destroys the standard aftermarket disk. get it.

Unlikely..... however, what you can do is increase the area of the mating surface. This will spread the load and reduce shock loading. It will also extend clutch disk life as there is more pad.
Downside is that your clutch will be more prone to slip.

I have had an Exedy 5 puck (SS), Extreme 6 puck (SS) and a modified Extreme clutch (RC, +pressure), all are nice.
My favourite clutch to date was the Extreme 6 button rigid centre.
My next clutch will be a twin plate (RC).

First make sure it's installed correctly.

Second spend some money and buy a really good one.

I've used deaking and pbr heavy duty clutches and every 12 months springs inside would brake. :)
