Hi All,
I recently removed a refurbished "dead alternator" from Grant's AB cordia.

Here is what I found when I pulled it apart:

Broken primary (low side) bush, and half a snap ring

Brush removed from regulator:

Was obviously broken on installation as the copper has degraded.

Clean rotor:

The "battery positive" feed wasn't even attached to the regulator (I have since soldered on):

My question is.........why did the charge light go out when this alternator is obviously dead?.....I have NEVER seen this before.....there is no way this thing made a circuit!!!!!

that is unusual , is the warning light still working?

I have a SAAB that shows about 10V charge rate, but the car wont die , and the alt light wont come on either , and I have fully checked all the alt battery and wiring and its correct it will never go up to 12-13v on charge

Yep Travis the battery light worked........turn on the ignition...no probs....turn the key....light goes out.

I've just had the same problem with a Sonata.........apparently it has something to do with the regulator "seeing" earth.
