Hi guys,
A few of you have asked how I fix plastics.............well I'm now sharing my knowledge of how to fix sunburnt plastics or plastics in general........do they look like this?

Yes?.................well I'll show you how to fix it.

You will need some time and patience,

Firstly grab some 80 grit sandpaper and remove the "chalky material" to the point where you see the fresh plastic.

Rub the panel down with 600 grit paper to ensure the panel is smooth:

Put 2 coats of flexi prime onto the panel and let dry:

Primer the panel..........this will allow you to see if any imperfections exist when you rub it back:

If any imperfections exist, use high build spray putty to ensure coverage:

Guide coat the panel:

Rub back with 600 grit to achieve this:

Tape the bottom of the panel as this won't require "texture"

Add textured stone guard:

Re-primer:

Once dry, dry rub the panel with 600 grit:

Add colour:

Re-assemble:

This process can be used for all plastics..........interior and exterior.........give it a go it's easy. :)

This passenger side pod looks like new!

Haha you put this up just in time, I was about to message you (as I often do to pick your ever knowledgeable brain:P) as I'm just about up to the interior stage of the work I'm doing.

Excellent write up! Looks brilliant!

Absolutely awesome, that could easily pass as NEW! I need to get onto this as soon as I've fixed up my exterior.

I vote for MORE "How To" threads!! Truly invaluable.

OK, last time I went to the wreckers I found an AB with the centre console pieces all busted in to little parts.........scrapped them up and placed in my bag........the parts were the centre handbrake panel and the gear stick panel.

The centre panel is a little difficult to fix, as you can't do it from the bottom due to the rubber cover needs to go back on!

Well, here is another tip for you guys, join the bits together with 2 layers of masking tape on the outside, turn the section over an use plumbers glue (yep the blue stuff) and allow it to dry.

This stuff actually "eats" plastic and tends to weld it together. If you can put it back in the console to dry.

After letting it dry remove the masking tape and "V" a groove in the crack and fill with bog. Rub back smooth.

Once dry spray with flexi prime, add the stone texture and colour...........yet another part saved from the bin.

This is how it should look before topcoat.

Happy fixing!!!
