Your car: Mitsubishi Cordia 1.6 Turbo
Hi everyone !

I've recently bought a Mitsubishi Cordia 1.6 Turbo and began to check the basic things when felt on little bad news,
since I suspect the car to have burned (a little), or been attacked by a battery acid one day in his life, some rubber part seems "melted".
But, comes to the problem, I've found this little guy next to the cooler fan to be alone :

And this pipe leads directly to the carburator :

Actually, I've some problem with the acceleration having a big RPM drop down before the engine accelerates itself, I suspect that there was a part like a canister that has been damaged and never replaced.

If someone could tell me what was the part and to which component it was linked, It would be a great help :)
I've checked the Worshop Manual but haven't found a "clue" to my question.

Many thanks to you :) !

Welcome to Cordiapower.

Where are you from?

Haven't seen a carby 1.6 in many years.

That's part of the air injection system, there should be steel lines and a valve running off the exhaust manifold back to the carby.

Take a pic of the whole engine bay, as I can't quite "see" what's going on.

Hi Bitza, thank you for the welcoming !
I'm from Belgium, and here we say : "haven't seen a Cordia in many years" :D !

Overall photo of the engine bay.

Detailled photo of the engine bay (will takes time, better to download it).

the detached pipe is on the bottom left, next to the cooler fan.

But if there were steel lines bringing the exhaust manifold to the carby there must be an other "exit" alone, coming from the exhaust.
The Cordia is not at my home but I'll give a glance under the car or next to the exhaust line soon.

Many thanks to you !

Had a look around the internet found what is missing:

It is the air injection valve (on the cold side), if you can't find one I would just block it off at the carby.

Here is a vid in a colt, same engine, but this guy has removed the valve.......you can see the open pipe connector in the air cleaner.

I'm pretty inexperienced but have to clear something ^^,

It seems (as you said / in the YT video) that this air intake returns into the air filter, not directly to the carburator like in my Cordia. Am I right ? It's pretty difficult to see it correctly hence I'm asking you.

I'm going to give it a try by blocking it. I'm a little bit sad since I was thinking that its RPM drop down before accelerating was maybe due to this lonely line that seems to be important :P

Many thanks for your precious advices Bitza.

Not quite........the line that you have unblocked runs to the air injection valve which then returns to the air cleaner port.

If you leave the tube open you will have no vacuum and therefore boost, the air injection valve is part of emissions control.

Blocking the pipe off should cause you no trouble.
