Hi All

How is the 5th gear setup achieved on a converted Cordia (4g93T) ?

Had the clutch done and some other bits (Thanks Coop1er :) )
Found that the 5th gear was missing the black canister and vacuum piping to allow 5th gear.
Pics would be great on mounting the canister etc..

Doing a search but nothing turning up yet. Hopefully something simple?

Cheers Mick

I have answered this many times but can't find the relative thread so here goes:

Hi

Thanks Bitza, much appreciated :)

Where did you mount the canister on the 4g63?
Also what about the electrical wiring as I don't seem to have the plug after the conversion?

Cheers Mick

The canister is really not required, I left it on my AC for originality.

If you mean the solenoid it's mounted on the rear (driver's side) engine mount.

Can't see why another loom was used, this will mean that the vehicle speed sensor won't work and you will have no reverse lights......can you post a pic of your engine bay?

Maybe the cordia gearbox loom is tucked away somewhere?

Hi

So I had a good look today. The wiring is connected to the solenoid so all ok. Speedo works.
So I'm looking at re connecting the bov. Running a new hose from the vacuum selector to the hose that
currently ha a bolt in it. Then run a hose from the empty spot with a one-way valve and T it in somewhere in the vacuum system?
See attached pics.

Below is a drawing I did. The hose from the blow off valve has be redirected to make constant vacuum.

Some motor pics of the 4g93

Also this has a screw in it? Should this be connected?

Also the large hose from this isn't connected. Looked at my other cordia and it goes into the inlet.

Mick,
That solenoid is plumbed completely wrong in the third pic, 2 of the vac lines need to run the selector, the last one goes to a strong vacuum source on the inlet manifold via a one way valve, have a close look at my first pic and you'll see how its plumbed.

Don't worry about the throttle body.

The last photo is emission control purge system, this hose needs to be connected to the air intake system somewhere, have you been smelling fuel?

Hi Bitza

Thanks for the info :)
Will try hooking up hoses as in your pic tomorrow.
Can I put another T into that spot where the BOV is aswell?
Fingers crossed..

Bought the car undrivable so I have only driven it for about 10 mins after the clutch was done.
Drove ok no fuel smell but will hook up that hose also.

Hi

I re did the setup today but still no 5th gear. Drove fine.
Used a cordia hose with a oneway valve from my other car T into the first vacuum inlet on the inlet manifold. Also T into this though is
the boost gauge and BOV.

I assume this is not ok ?
Is there a better spot to T into as the other side looks a lot small hose probably 4mm.
Or possibly another issue?

Cheers Mick

There is not enough vacuum through the small hose in order to change the actuator.........you may have to Tee it off the brake booster hose unless you can locate a "blank" somewhere else in the manifold the same size........never really had a close look at a 93 only VR4.

You will need to find or make new wiring for the select (Hi/Low range) switch on the front of the gearbox for 5th gear to work.

I have this issue that coop1er refers to. I haven't had time to trace the entire wiring circuit so i just locked it in hi and drive with 4 gears. Doing the same rpm in 4th at 110kph as you would in 5th normally. Taking of in 1st felt weird for a while but once you get used to it it's no problem.

ok, I thought it was just wiring on the solenoid.

Has anyone got a pick of the switch on the gearbox with plug so I can see if I can find it?

It's the thing just left of the slave cylinder, attached with 2 bolts. It's off in this photo but it usually sits a bit higher.
