What are the correct part numbers for the knock box for what year? I have bought a MD109942 for my '88 (new), and if I look it up on other sites it shows it is for 86-88 Mitsu's (Cordia, Tredia, Starion, Mirage) and some earlier years as well. I bought it for the 1985 year since it was cheaper (160.00) as opposed to 450.00 on Rockauto.

What part numbers do what? I know I have read here that one type pulls timing 8 degrees and the other is 12?

Your car: DOHC 2.3 VR4 85 AB GSR
Immaculate Stock 86 AC GSR
Correct, the AB 85 only retarded timing by 8 degrees, the AC running unleaded fuel retarded timing by 12 degrees.........personally I would use the AC version......will save your engine........you can tell the difference, AB has a thick seal around the E101, AC is a clean seal.

From doing some research the part# I bought (MD109942) is a primary part number for 86-88, but I also forgot that in the US there were no leaded Cordias so I doubt that any 8 degree boxes were imported here. I'm going to keep digging because there are about8 different part numbers out there for the same box. I'll also check the part number on my box on the car this weekend when I test the spare box.
