Wonder if the one from Jaycar is worthwhile? You would hope so for $700. |

Total waste of money IMO, here are two entry level options actually worth buying: Wanhow duplicator i3 v2 or newer: Great first 3d printer with plenty of support for upgrades! PLA only out of the box as it is an open frame design. ABS is possible with an enclosure and heated bed but a heated chamber is required for great results. The UP mini is great also: ABS only, Small build volume Locked down to UP brand filament unless you hack the firmware. Version 2 is due for release any time now, would be a great first printer capable of small functional parts. At work I use a CEL Robox and personally own a very modified Ultimaker 2+. ABS only for me as I mostly prototype or print functional parts . Hopefully will see some parts put to use in the cordia, lol. PLA only is fine if you are buying the printer just to 3d print. All things on Thingiverse.com will be printable, however the materials low glass transition temperature limits it's use in the real world. |
