i have oil leaking from somewhere on the oil return pipe from the turbo, it's quite a bad leak, and I don't want to drive it.

there seems to be a joiner or something in the middle of the pipe, this is where it's leaking from.

Is there a way to fix it? ie. can i use jb weld or something, or is there a rubber seal in that fitting that I can replace? or should i just take the whole pipe off and get another one??

Just wanted some idea before I pull it apart, that's all. I think i might whack some jb weld on it and see how that goes as a quick fix.

Cheers,

Tim

I know its a pain in the ass to change, but I think you would be better off replacing the oil line.

i'd replace it.
you can also get just the end fittings and use silicon hose between the 2, that is probably a better setup than the stock one.

hm, interesting idea oggy.

I might just hacksaw off both ends, and flare them and use silicon hose & some hose clamps.

Though, what i might do first, is just attack the join where it's leaking with jb weld and see how long it holds up, then fix it properly if it starts leaking again...

im suprised u havent seen/heard of this Merlin. youve been around cordias for a while now havent ya?!

any ways, its a very very common problem on the cordias for the knuckle to split on the oil return pipe. i had mine rewelded, lasted about 2 months. best thing to do (i did it and it never leaked again).

put this in the FAQ if its good enough.
Tools/Materials needed:
- 10/12mm spanner (bit hard to do the bolts on the turbo side or 3/8th ratchet with sockets and extensions)
- Gasket paper
- Hack Saw
- Oil proof and High Temp hose
- 2 x Hose clamps
- Silicon and Gasket Goo (preferable but not essential)
- Bottle of Engine oil

1- Drain engine oil
2- Remove the two bolts attaching the pipie to the underside of the turbo. 10mm's i think (could be 12mm's)
3- Remove the 2 bolts attaching the pipe to the sump also 10mm's i think(could be 12mm's).
4- Thoughly clean the remains of the gaskets off the turbo and sump.
5- Thouroughly clean remains of gaskets off both ends of pipe.
6- Use a hacksaw to cut just below the knuckle.
7- Now cut just above the knuckle.
you now should just have 2 pieces of pipe with NO knuckle.
8- Use oil proof and high temp oil line hose to go in place of the knuckle, you can also put some silicon on the cut endges of the pipe to get an even better seal. sliding the hose clamps over the hose, BUT do not tighten
9- Now using some gasket paper cut 2 new gaskets and use some Gasket Goo (organe tube) to get a perfect seal.
10- Smear some gasket goo on the gaskets and fit them in their spots
11- Now refit the pipe. Refitting is very easy as the clamps arent tightened so you can lengthen/reduce the amount of pipe.
12- With the pipe fitted on both ends tighten the clamps.
13- Fill your oil back up!!
14- Start the engine and check for leaks.

There you go.

hahaa, yes i owned a cordia back in 2003, but it got crashed 3 months after i bought it and I didn't really know much about mechanical stuff back then. Though i tell ya, i'm going through my fair share of 'typical cordia' problems - ie blown vac advance, 5th gear not working, cracking piston ring lands etc.etc.

i'm suprised on1 has yelled at me for forgetting to use the search before posting...

hehe, well it's all fixed now anyway,

you know that pipe is slightly smaller than 3/4 inch hose and slightly larger than 5/8 inch hose.... I used 5/8inch but it was a bitch to slide it onto the pipe, even using silicone grease to lube it up...

anyway, i hope i never have to do that again. it was a pain in the ass!
